FAQ

Do I need to know how to ski to join kearsarge nordic?

Not at all. We want anyone who is interested in learning about skiing and is willing to try to come out and ski. We are all learning and training is tailored to your level.

What equipment do I need to ski?

Skiers are to have skis, classic and freestyle (skate) poles, and boots. At a minimum, skiers should have combi skis (may be used for classic and skate techniques). Skiers should have classic and skate poles (these are the same kind of poles, but skate poles will be longer). Boots may be combi which would be suitable for both classic and skate techniques.

Label all your equipment.

What about clothing for winter?

Skiers will need to have appropriate clothing for strenuous outdoor winter activity. A wicking layer, a wind-resistant layer, as well as suitable socks, a hat and thin gloves are a must for skiing. An insulated layer that can be put on after practice is also a good idea. A ski bag is not required, but you will need to buddy up with someone who has room so that there are not loose skis in the trailer.

Where can I get equipment?

We have fostered a great relationship with both Nordic Skater in Newbury Harbor and S&W Sports in Concord and they have generously given skiers a discount off retail prices on equipment and soft goods in the past. Additionally, Omer & Bob’s in Lebanon, The Nordic Skier in Wolfeboro, West Hill Shop in Putney, VT and Great Glen Outdoor Center at the base of Mt. Washington in Gorham carry Nordic ski racing equipment. There are also numerous ski swaps in the area to lower the cost of joining Kearsarge Nordic. Additionally, if any potential skier anticipates that getting equipment may be a difficulty, please communicate with a coach, we have connections and the ability to get anyone equipment so that they can participate.

How Do I Know what’s going on?

Coaches are available during the school day and through email and phone calls outside of school. The schedule will be on the web page and most information is also on the team’s Facebook page.

Travel to Practice?

Because we practice at Proctor, we rely on each other to get to practices. One of the forms that skiers will receive gives permission for them to travel with student drivers. If this causes any concerns, please speak with the coaches and we’ll work something out.

There is usually a parent carpool for skiers traveling from the middle school.
